Dominican Republic
PADF has supported the Dominican Republic since our collaboration in founding the Fundación Dominicana de Desarrollo in 1966, and through disaster relief, environmental sustainability, citizen security, and cross-border development programs since 1979. Early aid included the delivery of emergency supplies after Hurricanes David and Frederick. In the 1980s and 1990s, PADF partnered with local institutions to promote agroforestry and watershed management, training thousands of farmers.
More recently, PADF’s Our Border initiative has strengthened economic and social ties along the Dominican-Haitian frontier, supporting cooperatives and more than 40 community groups through technical assistance and infrastructure projects, including honey processing plants. PADF has also advanced citizen security by working with municipal governments and community leaders to develop local crime prevention plans and improve public safety practices, with support from the U.S. Department of State.
